Professor Nadimpalli Siva Kumar, Biochemistry Department and Dean School of Life Sciences has been given the 27th TRendys in Biochemistry Oration Lecture Award for the year 2023, on the 6th January at the JSSS Technical University, Mysuru. TRendys is a scientific forum in India that recognises Faculties who have made outstanding contributions in the field of their research and have proven excellence in their academic endeavours both nationally and internationally.
The Keynote address was delivered by Prof. G. Padmanaban, former Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru on 60 years of Science at the Indian Institute of Science, among other lectures.
Nadimpalli Siva Kumar while delivering the Oration lecture, fondly remembered his Ph.D. mentor late Dr. D. Rajagopal Rao (CFTRI, Mysuru), late Prof. Tangirala Rama Sarma, Former Chairman Biochemistry Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and late Prof. K. Subba Rao a former Senior Colleague in the Biochemistry Department at the University of Hyderabad.
Prof Nadimpalli Siva Kumar is one of the Senior most Professors in the University of Hyderabad and works in the core area of Glycobiology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Nanobiotechnology. He served the University in different capacities as Head Department of Biochemistry, Coordinator of several International projects, as Director Office for International Affairs for more than four years before his present appointment as Dean, School of Life Sciences. He has successfully completed 16 research projects from various funding agencies including two international projects he coordinated. Scientist Award given for teachers, Fellow of AP Akademi of Sciences, Prof. Sadhaksharaswamy Endowment Lecture Award of the Society of Biological Chemists for teaching and research. He delivered the Oration Lecture entitled Lysosomal Biogenesis in the Kingdom Animalia – Evolutionary conservation of the pathway from Hydra to Humans. He contributed significantly in this area of research to resolve and establish the evolutionary conservation of lysosomal biogenesis pathway (several recent discoveries highlight the lysosome as a regulatory hub for cellular and organismal homeostasis, and an attractive therapeutic target for a broad variety of disease condition).
