Mr. Gopi Krishna Bhonagiri, PhD (Materials Engineering) scholar from the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad, has received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the recently concluded ‘CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2025’.

Mr. Gopi Krishna’s presentation was on “Hydrogen production through membrane and non-membrane water electrolysis, as well as its storage”. His presentation included a review of the subject, as well as insights/ideas for enhancing seawater electrolysis through the design and selection of materials. He also outlined his preliminary experimental work carried out at both the material level and system level to achieve enhanced water electrolysis, including direct seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production. He also discussed perspectives on advancing low-carbon technologies with improved energy efficiency when integrated with renewables, such as solar PV, for green hydrogen production, and materials for solid-state hydrogen storage were also discussed.

The Confederation of Indian Industry – Green Business Centre (CII-GBC) convened the 24th Energy Efficiency Summit from September 16 to 18, 2025, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). The Summit, themed “Accelerating the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy through Energy Efficiency,” served as India’s largest platform for advancing energy efficiency, engaging over 2,500 delegates, 100 eminent speakers, and 100 exhibitors representing government, industry, academia, and international organizations. In addition, a pavilion dedicated to 25 low-carbon technology solutions was inaugurated by Mr. Cristiano Pasini (Director & Representative, UNIDO Sub-Regional Office in India) and Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman (Chairman, Energy Efficiency Council & President, Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd). The Summit also featured a workshop with 19 Australian renewable energy startups under the India-Australia RISE Accelerator, delivered by CSIRO in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission and NITI Aayog.

For the first time, CII-GBC hosted an Academic Paper Presentation at the Energy Efficiency Summit 2025, aiming to bridge the gap between industry and academia. This platform provided a venue for postgraduates, PhD scholars, researchers, and scientists to present their work on low-carbon technologies. Following a rigorous evaluation by a panel of experts from industry and academia, select oral presentations were recognised for their innovation, scalability, and potential impact.

Mr. Gopi Krishna is working with Prof. Dr.-Ing. V. V. S. S. Srikanth.

Hearty congratulations to Mr. Gopi Krishna!!
