The “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta” programme for a massive clean/Swacha campus was organized by the employees of the University of Hyderabad today. This programme was envisaged by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India across the country as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his birth anniversary on 2nd October 2023. It was a part of the ongoing Swachchata Pakhwada – Swachhata Hai Seva (SHS) 2023 activities of the Government of India.
Chief guest Prof. V. Srinivas Rao, Dean of Students’ Welfare inaugurated the event at 10 am. Clean-up activities at three places – University Main Gate, TSRTC New Bus Stop (Opp: SBI), and Premises of the Old Science Complex were taken up simultaneously. Other dignitaries such as Prof. Saroj Panigrahi, Dean, School of Mathematics, Prof. Geetha Vemuganti, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ashwini Kumar Nangia, Dean, School of Chemistry, Prof. Prakash Babu, Director, HRDC, Dr. Bhimsingh, Dr. Rani Ratna Prabha, Dr. Varalakshmi, Programme Officers, NSS, Ashish Jacob Thomas, PRO and his team, Mallesham, retired Section Officer, Subba Rao, Assistant Horticulturist, Abhishek, Deputy Registrar, Estate Section, Sriramulu, Chief Security Officer and his team, G.V. Reddy, Assistant Registrar, Security dept, student volunteers from various disciplines, outsourced horticulture, and sanitation supervisors and workers participated in the programme.
They removed waste and dead plants, dusted the roads, cut the unnecessary grass and bushes, removed boulders lying on the road and made the premises and surroundings of the three places clean. Dr. B. Krishnaiah, Coordinator, NSS and Sri A. Srinivasa Rao, Joint Registrar, Horticulture and Sanitation coordinated the programme in collaboration with the Horticulture, Sanitation and Security departments of the University.
All the participants took the “Swachhta pledge” in the premises of the School of Old Science Complex and at the Main gate of the University. They thanked Prof. Basuthkar Jagadeeshwar Rao, the honourable Vice-chancellor and Dr. Devesh Nigam, the Registrar for their support, guidance and encouragement from time to time for the success of today’s massive Swachchata Hai Seva activity on the campus.
