Aleena Sebastian, Ph.D. Scholar in Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been selected to present a paper in a fully funded conference in Exeter, UK. The conference is titled, “Uses of the Past in Islamic Law” and Aleena will be presenting her doctoral research on the Matrilineal Muslims of Malabar in the panel on “Customizing the Sharia: Matrilineal Muslims and their Uses of Islamic Legal Past”.
The conference will be held from 27-29 September 2018. The conference is part of the project titled, “Understanding Sharia: Past Perfect Imperfect Present” which includes team of researchers in the four participating Universities – Exeter, Leiden, Gottingen and Bergen.
Aleena has been pursuing her PhD at UoH under the supervision of Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, faculty in the Department of Sociology.
