Former students of University of Hyderabad (UoH), Dr. Kalpana Kanabiran, Director, Council for Social Development and Dr. Vamsi Vakulabharanam, Associate Professor in School of Economics were today (30th July 2013) felicitated by the University for being awarded the prestigious Amartya Sen Award for the year 2013.
Dr. C H Hanumantha Rao, Chancellor and Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, Vice-Chancellor of UoH were present and felicitated the awardees. Chancellor expressed his delight on being part of this function and hoped that many other students of UoH will one day in future bring laurels to the University. Vice-Chancellor said that he was very happy to have both Dr. Kalpana and Dr. Vamsi at UoH to share their work with the students of the University.
Speaking to the students and faculty at the DST Auditorium, Dr. Kalpana Kanabiran who is also the co-founder of Asmita Resource Centre for Women focused on understanding structural violence, the social foundations of non discrimination, and questions of constitutionalism and social justice in India.
Dr. Vamsi Vakulabharanam in his address has focused on his research on inequality in the contemporary economies of India and China. He shared his work on globalization and agrarian change in India with special reference to Telangana, and consumption and wealth inequality during the period of economic reforms.
Dr. G Nagaraju, Deputy Dean, Student’s Welfare and Alumni Cell Coordinator proposed a vote of thanks.
