Anuradha Singh, PhD student and Prime Minister’s Research Fellow (PMRF) in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics working under the supervision of Prof. Niyaz Ahmed, won the Best Poster Award at the Genomics India Conference 2023, NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru. This Mega conference was held on 2nd and 3rd of February, and spanned 40+ topics through 14 different sessions in the field of genomics. 50+ esteemed speakers from 10+ countries including Prof. Harold Varmus, Nobel Laureate, presented their talks in the conference.
The title of her poster was “High-throughput comparative genomics and machine learning-based classification of Escherichia coli Sequence Types – implications and new findings”. As a part of this study, a global collection of 5653 E. coli genomes representing 19 different Sequence Types was analyzed using Supervised Machine Learning algorithms. This high-throughput comparative genomic analysis revealed significant diversity in terms of genomic features of the bacteria and provided a working framework to understand ongoing and futuristic trends in the emergence of antibiotic resistance and virulence in different lineages, worldwide.
