Hyderabad – An informal yet significant book launch for book – Audiovisual Translation in India: Trends and Practices, published by Routledge. The book, authored by Dr. Priyanka Rachabattuni and Prof. Jandhyala Prabhakar, explores the dynamic landscape of audiovisual translation in India, providing critical insights into its evolving trends and practices.
Dr. Priyanka Rachabattuni, a Ph.D. in Translation Studies (2021) from the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), University of Hyderabad, has extensively researched audiovisual translation in the Indian context. Her doctoral thesis, Audiovisual Translation in India: A Case Study of Cultural Context and Language Used in TV Advertisements, underscores her expertise in the field. She also holds an M.Phil. in Translation Studies from University of Hyderabad and a postgraduate degree in English Literature. With five research papers published and fifteen research paper presentations in India and abroad, Dr. Priyanka Rachabattuni has made significant contributions to the Audiovisual translation field.
Dr.Priyanka has also participated in prestigious academic programs, including Harvard University’s IWL Summer School (2017) in Denmark and the IBN TIBBON Translation Studies Doctoral and Teacher Training Summer School at the University of Granada.
The book was unveiled by Prof. Jorge Díaz Cintas, the IoE Chair Professor at CALTS, University of Hyderabad, and a globally recognized expert in audiovisual translation, Founding Director, University College London, Centre for Translation Studies (CenTraS). Accepting the first signed authored copy from Dr. Priyanka Rachabattuni, Prof. Díaz Cintas commended the book’s in-depth analysis and relevance, offering a brief critique that highlighted its significance in the field.
Dr. Priyanka Rachabattuni expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Díaz Cintas for his invaluable insights as the external examiner for her Ph.D. viva voce and for publishing the book. She also extended her appreciation to her Ph.D. supervisor, Prof. Jandhyala Prabhakar, as well as the Department of Translation Studies, CALTS, and the faculty at the University of Hyderabad for their immense support and encouragement “I am immensely grateful to CALTS and the University of Hyderabad for providing such a vibrant academic platform.
