Mr. Abhayananda Behera, Ph.D. research scholar (ICMR-SRF) from the Department of Animal Biology, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, working under the supervision of Prof. A Bindu Madhava Reddy has won the best poster award with a cash prize of 50,000/- on presenting his work titled “Unraveling the threads: WWP1 as the architect of the chronic myeloid leukemia growth and susceptibility through AMPK RUNX1 vs. WWP1-RUNX1 mediated stability” at a conference titled “CANCER NEXT 2024”-organized by FABA (Federation of Asian Biotech Association) and BAT (Bharat Advanced Therapeutics) held at NIMS (Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences), Hyderabad on 30th November 2024.

hashtag#RUNX1 is one of the important transcription factors for hematopoietic stem cells growth and development. Improper expression and mutations of RUNX1 are linked to leukemogenesis. They assessed the AMPK-WWP1-RUNX1 axis in the context of chronic myeloid leukemia. This study underscores WWP1 as a critical driver of CML progression through RUNX1 stabilization and positions the AMPK-WWP1-RUNX1 axis as a potential therapeutic target.

Congratulations and best wishes to Abhayananda Behera.
