The Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology (CASEST), School of Physics has been sanctioned Rs 1.45 Crores under the DST-FIST programme in Engineering Sciences. The funds are sanctioned for purchase of equipment and various outreach activities. The theme of the programme is Development of next generation sensing platforms: From materials to devices and systems. The objectives of the programme over the five-year period are to develop novel materials for monitoring health and food security; employ AI, physics and TCAD based models for prediction of sensor performance. The expected deliverables are the development of prototypical sensing platforms for monitoring of critical health parameters, detection of adulteration in milk, edible oils and other foods; a low-cost indigenous AI enabled sensing platform for measuring multiple parameters using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and optical techniques; sensor fusion technique and a complete process flow technology for sensor development. The aim is to develop point-of-care sensor systems for healthcare applications and point-of-consumption/ collection sensor systems for food security. This will be a significant contribution from CASEST towards the commitment made by the University for achieving the sustainable development goals.
Notably, CASEST is one among five academic departments across Telangana and the only department from the University of Hyderabad to receive funds in this round of the DST-FIST programme. The financial support is expected to enhance the research and teaching infrastructure of CASEST which offers M.Tech.(Microelectronics and VLSI design), M.Tech. (Integrated Circuits Technology) and Ph.D. (Electronics Science and Engineering). CASEST has been awarded financial support under the Chip-to-startup (C2S) programme of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. CASEST has also received the Technovation award 2024 from the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association for being the best skilling entity in recognition of its M.Tech. programmes.
