On February 20, 2025, the University of Hyderabad community came together to celebrate the State Day of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh hosted by Raj Bhavan, Telangana.

Our students and faculty from Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh were honoured to attend the event, which was graced by Hon’ble Sri Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana, and other distinguished dignitaries including Sri. M Dana Kishore, IAS (Principal Secretary to Governor), Smt. Dr Christina Z. Chawngthu, IAS (Secretary to Government, Health Medical and Family Welfare Dept) and Smt. C Dokhuma, IPS (Retd). A short speech was delivered by Dr C. Vanlalhruaii, Asst Professor, Centre for Health Psychology, University of Hyderabad.

The highlight of the event was the mesmerizing Cheraw dance performance by our Mizo students, which left the audience spellbound!

The performers were felicitated with a memento by the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana.

The event celebrated the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, and reinforced the significance of statehood in India’s federal structure. The speeches of the dignitaries highlighted the significance of the celebration of statehood providing deeper understanding of their history, culture and progress, and it’s symbolism of India’s rich cultural diversity.
