“Children must be aware of their rights,” said Shalini Jadav, Chairperson of the Citizens’ Human Rights Organization South Zone, during a talk at a school on December 17, 2024. The talk was part of an NSS (National Service Scheme) camp activity, aimed at educating students on their rights and responsibilities.

Shalini emphasized that awareness of their privileges would help students progress academically and lead informed lives.

She elaborated on several crucial topics, including health and hygiene, the impact of social media, mobile phone misuse, social behavior, breast and cervical cancer, the role of the Children Welfare Committee and SHE Team, understanding good touch and bad touch, and the importance of avoiding early romantic attractions during adolescence.

NSS volunteers led a cleanup drive at the school, working to make the campus plastic-free. They collected plastic waste from the premises and educated students on the importance of reducing plastic use and proper disposal methods. The collected waste was transported to the local Grama Panchayat waste collection unit.

Uday Kumar, Chairperson of the Sri Rajamatha Foundation, Hyderabad, spoke about opportunities for NSS volunteers to participate in welfare activities for thalassemia patients, individuals with mental and physical disabilities, and elderly people. He highlighted the national-level opportunities available for volunteers who participate in the NSS village camps.

Additionally, female NSS volunteers conducted a session for girls in grades 6 to 10, focusing on health, hygiene, and menstrual health. The session aimed to provide adolescent girls with accurate information and promote healthy practices.

The camp concluded with a session chaired by Mrs. Jayakrishna, the Headmistress of the school. She expressed gratitude to the NSS team for their efforts in organizing awareness activities for the benefit of the students.

Mr. Harikrishna and Mrs Sasikala, the founders of Janam Kosam Manam foundation, Lakdaram village took part in the event.
