The Department of Urdu, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad organized the Academic Writing Workshop for the students and research scholars from 24th to 26th February 2025 at the Conference Hall, School of Humanities. The main objective of the workshop was to develop the writing skills of the participants as it is evident that the thrust area of the study of language and literature is to know the society through various kinds of writing; it may be prose or poetry. The core area of the literary studies is to develop the understanding of the society, social processes leading to transformation within and outside. In the process of research in Urdu language and literature it is utmost necessary to compile the facts and findings in a proper way, be it in the form of thesis, chapter, articles or reviews. To empower the students and research scholars of Urdu with the skills of writing, understanding, evaluation of the texts, critical appreciations etc, it was the main motive to conduct theĀ Academic Writing Workshop for the students and research scholars of the Department of Urdu in connection with the Golden Jubilee academic activities series of the University of Hyderabad.
The aims and objectives of the workshop were to enable the students and research scholars to develop critical thinking, improve the quality of writing, to substantiate the argument with research evidences and finally assimilating all these into the academic writing which shall result in the form of publication in the world class indexed and CARE / refereed or peer reviewed journals.
The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. M. T. Ansari, Dean, School of Humanities. The guests were welcomed by the Head, Dept. of Urdu, Prof. A. M. Syed Fazlullah. The detailed information about the workshop was shared by the Coordinator of the workshop Prof. Md. Zahidul Haque. The founder Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad Prof. Gurbakhsh Singh was remembered on this occasion as the University is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its inception. A rich tribute was paid to the founder Vice Chancellor in the Inaugural as well as in the Valedictory sessions of the workshop. The invited resource persons were Prof. Safdar Imam Quadri, Patliputra University, Prof. Mushtaq Alam Qadri, University of Delhi, Dr Firoz Alam and Dr Ahmad Khan from the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. Faculty members of the Dept. of Urdu, Dr Rafia Begum, Dr Srisen Kumar Bharti along with students and research scholars of the Departments of Urdu and Hindi welcomed the guests with shawl and bouquet. The inaugural and valedictory sessions were conducted by Mr. Kafeel Ahmad and Md. Aasim Badr, Research Scholars of the Dept. of Urdu.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, Prof. B. J. Rao addressed the participants and the audiences on the second day of the event and extended his good wishes to all in relation to the workshop. He stressed that the outcome of this workshop must enrich the participants in the area of research writings.
The event was attended by the students and research scholars of the Departments of Urdu and Hindi, School of Humanities. The Vice Chancellor expressed his happiness over the event being multilingual.
