Professor B V Sharma and Professor Amitabh Pande, two of the distinguished Alumni of the Department of Anthropology, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) have been appointed to the prestigious positions of The Director of the Anthropological Survey of India (ASI) HQ, Kolkata, West Bengal and the Indira Gandhi Rasthriya Manav Sanghralaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, MP respectively under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Dr B V Sharma has now completed over thirty years of teaching in the Department of Anthropology at UoH and guided multiple doctoral scholars in the fields of Medical Anthropology, Tribal Welfare and development and the larger paradigm of social anthropology. He has also held the position of Project Investigator in multiple projects of national importance sponsored by ICMR and the Tribal Welfare Department of the Government of Telangana. Dr Sharma has also widely published with over thirty publications in various prestigious journals, books, edited volumes and project reports. Recently, Dr Sharma has taken up the role of associate editor for the Journal of the Indian Anthropological Society. Prof BV Sharma did MA anthropology from Pune university and PhD at Anthropology department of UoH (1992 pass out).
Dr Amitabh Pande has held the post of Chairperson and professor of the Sociology and Community Development in the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal and has also been the Chairperson of the International Centre of Community Forestry (ICCF) and a member of the Madhya Pradesh Wetland Authority of the Government of MP. He completed his doctoral thesis on the Study of Sacred Groves using an Anthropological Approach from the Department of Anthropology in the University of Hyderabad. Dr Pande has completed multiple projects both national and international as a consultant and trainer with the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, European Union, ICSSR, DST and MOTA. He was also instrumental in drafting the National Forest Policy in 2018. Dr Pandey has also disseminated his vast experience in training forest officers of Bhutan and Bangladesh and has over thirty publications to his name in the form of books, journals, chapters and project reports. He did his MA, MPhil and PhD in Anthropology from UoH (2002 pass out).
