Dr. Bhim Subba, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), visited the People’s Republic of China from 16-21 September 2024. The Indian delegation consisted of prominent Indian Sinologists and China studies scholars from different universities and research institutions from East and South India to explore India-China academic exchanges and strengthen bilateral relations. The delegation visit was a ‘people-to-people contact’ initiative between the two Asian neighbours after many years.
The Indian delegation visited Beijing and Shanghai, meeting and interacting with officials and scholars of Indian and South Asian studies. In Beijing, the delegation was received by officials of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (South Asia Division) and interacted with Chinese scholars at the ‘Bilateral Seminar on India-China Bilateral Relations’ at the China Institutes of International Studies (CIIS). In Shanghai, the visiting Indian delegation visited the Centre for South Asian Studies, Fudan University, and Shanghai Institutes of International Studies (SIIS) and discussed prospects of bilateral relations and rising geopolitical challenges in the region and globally.
Dr. Subba, who teaches comparative politics and international studies, remarks, “This post-Covid visit was crucial to firsthand understanding with scholars and lay Chinese folks the current scenario of China’s domestic and foreign perspectives” on South Asia in general and India in particular.
