Dr. J. Prabhakara Rao, Professor of Linguistics & Coordinator, Centre for Study of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad has been nominated as a member on the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) of National Translation Mission (NTM) for a period of two years (2014-16). This mission is based at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore and is operating under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
National Translation Mission (NTM) is a Government of India scheme to establish translation as an industry in general and, to facilitate higher education by making knowledge texts accessible to students and academics in Indian languages in particular. The vision is to create a knowledge society by transcending language barriers. NTM aims to disseminate knowledge in all Indian languages listed in the VIII schedule of the Constitution through translation. The Project Advisory Committee (PAC) is the apex decision making body for NTM. It includes 25 experts consisting of Scholars and experts teaching and practising translation; Authors; Littérateurs; Presidents of literary academies; Vice-Chancellors of Universities; Members from booksellers and publishers guild; Representative of the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India and Professors from institutes like IITs.
