Dr. Mohamed Musthafa K.T. an alumnus of the Department of Sociology and the Centre for the Study of Indian Diaspora, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad has been awarded with the Prof. Jacob John Kattakayam Young Sociologist Award for the best research paper published in the last three years (2022–2025), at the 51st Kerala Sociological Society Annual National Conference on “Sustainability and Sociology: Experience on Intersections”, held at Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, Kerala, from April 4th to 6th, 2025.

This award was instituted by the Kerala Sociological Society (KSS), a professional body of sociologists in Kerala. The Society was established to promote the teaching and research of Sociology and to elevate the status of the profession both within the State and across the country. It also includes members from other parts of India as well as from abroad.

Dr. Musthafa completed his Master’s in Sociology in 2012, and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the Centre for the Study of Indian Diaspora in 2014 and 2020 respectively, under the guidance of Prof. Ajaya K. Sahoo.

Dr. Mohamed Musthafa K.T. completed his Ph.D. thesis on “Trends, Patterns, and Changes of 21st Century Kerala Migration to the United Arab Emirates” under the guidance of Prof. Ajaya Kumar Sahoo. Prof. Nagaraju Gundemela and Prof. M.N. Rajesh were members of the doctoral committee. His M.Phil. thesis was titled “Socio-economic Problems of Kerala Gulf Return Migrants: A Study on Malappuram District in Kerala under the guideship of Prof Ajaya Kumar Sahoo.

Dr. Mohamed Musthafa K.T. has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Farook College (Autonomous), Kerala. He has published research articles in various national and international journals and has received awards for best paper presentations
