Dr. Rakesh Ramamoorthy, an alumnus of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has recently won the ‘Kairali Research Award-2024’, a prestigious research award instituted by the Govt. of Kerala.

 

Rakesh did his MA-English at UoH during 2008-2010 and secured the first rank and the Sarojini Naidu Memorial Trust Medal. He also did M.Phil. at the Department of English, U0H during 2010-2012 under the supervision of Dr Anna Kurian. Since 2012, Rakesh has been teaching at the Department of English, Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

 

 

Kairali Research Awards are prestigious awards instituted by the Kerala State Higher Education Council, Government of Kerala, in order to reward excellence in research under various categories and disciplines. Rakesh won the Kairali Gaveshana Puraskaram (the category for teachers working in Kerala) in the domain of Arts and Humanities. The award is based on prior research achievements and a research proposal that is submitted as part of the application process. It carries a citation, a prize money of Rs. 1 lakh, and Rs.24,00,000/- as research funding for a period of two years. Rakesh’s research project is titled “Cricketing Celebrity and Mediated Indianness, 1952-2024: The Changing Intersections of Nation, Market, and (Transnational) Fame”.
