Dr. Salah Punathil, a faculty member at the Centre for Regional Studies, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad, has been awarded the prestigious Max Planck Partner Group research grant for a period of five years. This highly competitive grant supports collaborative research between scholars based in Germany and their counterparts in other countries, fostering long-term academic and research partnerships.

Dr. Salah will lead a research project under this grant, which will be jointly hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, Germany, and the University of Hyderabad in India.

The project will be conducted in close collaboration with Prof. Ursula Rao, Director of the Department ‘Anthropology of Politics and Governance’ at the Max Planck Institute, who will serve as the host collaborator in Germany. Dr. Punathil will lead the research theme ‘Biometric Identification and Practices of Citizenship in India’.
