‘Tumhara Vincent’ chosen the best among 136 entries received

Play based on great Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh

Dr. Satyabrata Rout, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts at S.N. School of Arts & Communication, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been selected to receive the prestigious “Mohan Rakesh Samman” offered by Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi; Akademi for Art and Literature, Govt. of Delhi.

Mohan Rakesh Samman is a National Award given to the best playwright of the year and Dr. Rout’s authored play “TUMHARA VINCENT (Yours Vincent)” owned the best manuscript of the year. This play has been chosen for the First Prize from 136 entries that were received from all over India. The award will be presented to him in a ceremony organized in this purpose in Delhi in October this year. The play will also be presented for a distinguished audience on this occasion.

Tumhara Vincent is a multilingual dramatic text based on the life and work of the great Dutch master, painter; Vincent van Gogh. It is a devised play evolved by Dr. Rout through a research process conducted by him with the 1st year masters in Performing Arts (M.P.A) students of the Theatre Arts Department last year.

Dr. Satyabrata Rout

Dr. Satyabrata Rout has completed his Masters in Theatre from National school of Drama, New Delhi, in 1983 with Design and Direction specialization. He has done Ph.D from C.C.S University, Meerut on the topic, “Influence of B.V karanth on Indian Dramaturgy: A critical study”. He was the Technical Director of Madhya Pradesh Rangmandal, Bhopal for six years. In 1989 he was associated with Barry John in Theatre in Education Company at NSD as a Teacher-Designer. Dr. Rout is a noted play director of National repute and has received several awards for his contribution to contemporary Indian Theatre, including META award and Manohar Singh Smriti Samman. In 2013 he has directed Girish Karnad’s Nagamandal and Vasa’s Urubangam in English for East 15 Acting School at the University of Essex, London and was widely appreciated. Since 2007 he is Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Hyderabad. He has got wide range of experience in theatre teaching, training and direction.

Sahitya Kala Parishad, the Cultural wing of the Govt. of NCT of Delhi for music, dance, drama & fine arts has been engaged in the task of nurturing and fostering these arts and creating a cultural and artistic awareness in the Capital ever since its inception in 1968. The Parishad has been pursuing multifarious activities in order to enrich the cultural ethos of the Capital and inculcate an artistic awareness amongst people of Delhi through its various schemes and programmes.
