Dr. Sheela Suryanarayanan, Associate Professor, Centre for Women’s Studies, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been appointed as the Visitor’s Nominee in the Executive Council of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. The English and Foreign Languages University is a premier Central University with a prestigious academic record both in India and abroad.
Dr. Sheela Suryanarayanan
Dr. Sheela Suryanarayanan has 30-years of experience in academics and teaching on women’s development and empowerment. She has a double Master of Arts in Geography and Development Studies from Mumbai and Pune Universities. Her PhD was on maternal health from the School of Public health, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane Australia. Her academic contribution has been immense in terms of publications and policy making. She has published several peer-reviewed journal articles, most in international journals, that have been widely cited. She has 2 books published on; Transnational Surrogacy in 2018 and Sex Selective Abortions in 2025 published by Springer, Singapore and Berghahn Books, UK, USA. Her book on surrogacy has been translated in German language and published in 2025, on public demand. She has contributed to policy making in India as a Select committee member that discussed the Surrogacy Regulation Act 2020 at the Rajya Sabha.
