ASPIRE-BioNEST of University of Hyderabad in association with Startup Accelerator India (SAI) of Govin Capital and Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) conducted its 2nd-chapter of Dr. Yellapragada Subbarow GEM Lecture Series on the 6th September, 2019 at the seminar hall of School of Life Sciences.  It is an open lecture to all scientific community.

Dr. Harish Iyer

This lecture series is dedicated in commemorating the unparallel scientific contributions of late Dr. Yellapragada Subbarow towards humanity.  This endeavor contains a lecture by an eminent scientific entrepreneur whose contributions towards translated outcomes of research and development in life sciences for humanity in healthcare, a citation, gold medal, and a cash prize for a publication or patent by the faculty/student of University of Hyderabad that is focused towards the healthcare application in life sciences.  The 1st chapter of this series felicitated Prof. E. Premkumar Reddy of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine on his team’s contributions to drug discovery in oncology, while the 2nd chapter honored Dr. Harish Iyer, Senior advisor for R&D of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

The Lecture was presided by the honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Appa Rao Podile, who spoke about the entrepreneurial and innovation vertical of University of Hyderabad, while Prof. Reddanna, coordinator of the ASPIRE-BioNEST gave welcome address to the audience and introduced the initiative. Dr. Vijay Kumar introduced the role of FABA in life sciences activities in Hyderabad and India, while Dr. Anand Govindaluri of SAI introduced and conducted the fire-side-chat with the invited speaker, Dr. Harish Iyer, who holds a doctoral degree in chemical engineering from Rensselar Polytechnic Institute of USA, and held various senior level positions at Genentech, Biogen IDEC, Biocon, and Shanta Biotechniques Pvt. Ltd. during the course of his illustrious career, before assuming his current role at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  The gold medal for the best publication with social relevance was given to Prof. Mrinal Bhattacharya on the significant outcomes of his research on synergistic and beneficial mix of a novel molecule with Artemisinin in the control of malaria
