Prof. Samit K Ray, Chair Professor Department of Physics, IIT Kharagpur delivered a Golden Jubilee Distinguished Lecture titled Emerging Semiconductor Technologies :Trends and Perspectives on 12th November, 2024 at the Dr. Zakir Husain lecture Hall Complex. The lecture which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. B. J. Rao was organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology, School of Physics as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the University. In the lecture Prof. Ray traced the history of semiconductors and their importance in emerging technologies.

Prof. Ray talked about different aspects of semiconductor technologies from materials to devices and their modern applications in Artificial Intelligence as well as healthcare. Prof. Ray also talked about the highlights of the investments made by the Government of India in the area of semiconductor technologies and the (Indian and multinational) industries that are investing in this area. He expressed confidence that there would be several job opportunities.

He advised the students on the importance of learning basics well and developing skills to become job ready. It was an excellent lecture which was attended by almost 100 faculty members and students and covered scientific, technical, history, future and policy issues related to the area of semiconductor technologies.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. BJ Rao stressed upon the importance of the area in his presidential remarks. The Dean School of Physics, Prof. PK Suresh and Prof. Samrat L. Sabat, Head, CASEST also spoke on the occasion while Prof. K C James Raju of CASEST introduced the speaker. Prof. M. Ghanashyam Krishna, Director, IoE presented a memento to the Distinguished speaker.
