A preliminary eye screening camp organized from September 9-11, 2024 at the UoH Campus School, followed by eye examination at the optometry clinic at the School of Medical Sciences. The program emphasized the importance of vision health in promoting academic performance and overall well-being among school children. This initiative is aimed to provide prescription glasses to students identified with vision impairments. A successful spectacle distribution event was conducted at the University of Hyderabad Campus School on December 3rd, 2024 to the needy students.
Event Details
Screening and Prescription: An eye camp was held at the University of Hyderabad’s Campus School from 9th September 2024 to 11th September 2024, to identify refractive errors requiring correction and assessing the overall ocular health of students. Organized by the School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad, the camp was led by Dr Konda Nagaraju, Associate Professor and Course Coordinator, with the guidance and supervision of Clinical Instructors, Ms. Meghana Mashagalla and Ms Bindu Reddy, along with optometry students pursuing an Integrated Master of Optometry. The main objective was to provide comprehensive optometric examinations for all students.
A total of 482 students were screened during the camp, and 103 students were referred to the University of Hyderabad (UoH) Optometry Clinic for further evaluation. Of these, 27 students visited the clinic for follow-up and were prescribed glasses. The ONESIGHT, EssilorLuxottica Foundation generously collaborated and sponsored spectacles for students with refractive errors.
Distribution of Spectacles: The spectacles were distributed on December 3rd, 2024 to the identified students after obtaining the consent of the respective parents. A total of 26 pairs of spectacles were dispensed to the students, each tailored to meet their specific visual needs. The children expressed their happiness upon receiving their spectacles, with many sharing how the new glasses immediately improved their ability to see clearly. This small but significant change in vision clarity positively impacts their academic performance and daily activities.
