Aakanksha Aditi (21SNPT03), PhD scholar from Dept of Theatre Arts (UoH) presented a paper in the ‘Women – Music – Futures’ symposium that took place at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland, on March 9th and 10th, 2023. The title of the paper is ‘Folksongs and Mental Health of the Marginalized Women of Bihar in India’.
The paper was presented offline, in person at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The presentation was on the topic of folksongs and its relation with mental health of the marginalized section of women of Bihar in India. It discusses the role of music in the lives of rural women for healing, community building as well as cultural formation. It explores the complexities of lament and pain, particularly for lower caste women in Bihar, with a focus on migration folksongs, and lingers on the issue of mental health following a COVID lockdown.
