Shri Chittaranjan Tripathy, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), has recently assumed the esteemed role of Director at the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi, effective from October 6, 2023. Tripathy completed his MA in Sociology at UoH from 1990 to 1992, during which time he also served as the cultural secretary of the Students’ Union. He further honed his craft by completing a diploma in acting at NSD in 1996, followed by a specialized study in Direction at the Guildford School of Acting.

Tripathy’s versatile talents have been showcased in around eighteen Hindi movies and web series, notably including critically acclaimed productions such as Shubh Mangal Saabdhan, Talvar, Dasvi, Mission over Mars, and Farzi. He garnered widespread recognition for portraying the character ‘Trivedi’ in the popular Sacred Games series on Netflix. He has done about 50 plays. He directed and composed music for the NSD Rep’s premiere production of Taj Mahal Ka Tender.

Since 2007, Tripathy has been actively contributing to the vibrant Odia movie industry. His directorial work on the film Dhauli Express earned him three Odisha State Film Awards. Notably, he received the Mohana Sundara Dev Goswami Award in 2007 and the Odisha State Film Awards for Best Music Director and Best Singer. In 2016, he secured the Odisha State Film Award for Best Comedian for his notable performance in Love you Jessica.
