Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad is hosting National Conference on “Frontiers in Plant Biology” from 31st January, 2020 to 1st February, 2020 to mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Department.  The Annual Plant Sciences Colloquium of the Department is combined with the Conference.

The Conference got underway on 31st January 2020 with the inaugural talk by Prof. Sudhir K. Sopory, an eminent scientist from International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi.  Prof. Appa Rao Podile, honourable Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad and Prof. N. Siva Kumar, School of Life Sciences welcomed the delegates for the Conference and spoke on the occasion.

 

The Conference is being attended by 100 prominent researchers from reputed institutes of the country who will be sharing their scientific knowledge and last research findings.  The conference is covering a range of topics in frontier areas of plant biology with 25 invited talks by eminent scientists and 75 presentations by young investigators and students, with the presentations spread over two days.  The scientific deliberations taking place under different themes viz., Plant Functional Genomics and Genome Editing, Host-Pathogen Interactions, Abiotic Stress and Mineral Nutrition, Plant Cell Signalling, Medicinal Plants and Secondary Products, and Plant and Microbial Diversity will bring into focus the latest research developments in plant sciences.

The Department has released the brochure highlighting the academic and research activities of the Department during the inauguration of the Conference.  Prof. G. Padmaja is the Convenor and Dr. Santosh R. Kanade and Dr. Rahul Kumar, Department of Plant Sciences are the Organizing Secretaries of the Conference.  The Conference was organized with the support received from UGC-SAP-DRS-1, CSIR, SERB (DST), University of Hyderabad and several Industrial Sponsors.
