As part of the “Green” initiative, Shri K Vishweshwar Reddy, Hon’ble M.P. (Lok Sabha) Chevella Constituency launched the Green Bucket Initiative (GBI) 2014 at the School of Management Studies (SMS) in University of Hyderabad (UoH). Addressing the faculty, students and staff the Hon’ble MP said that he is an ardent supporter of the Green Mission and he invited all the young students of UoH to be part of his mission in preserving this planet for the future generations. We must also be involved in sustaining the resources and promote the concept of biogas in the rural areas, he added.
To commemorate the occasion a tree plantation programme and shramdhan were organized at the School. Hon’ble MP, Mr. N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director, HMRL, Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, Vice-Chancellor (UoH) along with faculty and many students from the SMS planted trees within the school campus. GBI is a precursor to the Swachh Bharat Mission proposed by the Government of India to be launched on October 2, 2014 all over the country.
The Green Bucket Initiative is a brain child of Prof. V Venkataramana, senior faculty in the School of Management Studies at UoH. Prof. Venkataramana feels that students should be associated with this initiative as they are the future Green Warriors of our country. They also pledged to continue the Green Initiative and bring in the active involvement of the stakeholders in this movement.
Mr. N V S Reddy in his address called upon the students to be a part of the Metro Rail’s Green Mission. He called upon the audience to plant trees and take the responsibility of nurturing them also.
Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy thanked the Hon’ble MP for gracing the occasion and reiterated the University’s responsibility of maintaining the green cover on the campus for which it is quoted as an example by many.
The SMS has been in the forefront of providing Management Education for the last 15 years and has emerged as a leading B-School in the region and beyond. Under GBI 2014 it is proposed to Plant saplings and maintain them and Undertake awareness and sensitization events to the campus community in general and other B-Schools in particular.
