The Government of Telangana on June 2nd honoured the eminent personalities of telangana state for their contribution in various fields, on the eve of telangana state formation celebrations. Dr.G.Kumara Swamy who is an alumnus of UOH (MPA-PhD FROM SN SCHOOL) have been honoured with “STATE LEVEL VISHISHTA PURASKARAM-2018” for his contribution in the field of Theatre arts. The Presentation ceremony was held at Ravindrabharathi,Hyderabad on June 2nd evening.

Dr.G.Kumara Swamy was felicitated and presented the prestigious state level award by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mahamood Ali along with Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy , Advisor to Government KV.Ramanachary, BC Commission Chairman B.S.Ramulu, Secretary to Government Burra.Venkatesham, Telangana Sahithya Academy Chairman Nandini.Siddareddy, Director Department of Culture Mamidi.Harikrishna. Along with them other dignitaries who graced this event are Culture and Tourism Minister A.Chandulal, Home Minister Nayini.Narasimha Reddy, Telangana samskruthika Sarathi Chairman Rasamai.Balakishan among others. The Award included A Memento, shawl, Certificate and Cash Award of Rs.100, 116/-.
Dr. G Kumara Swamy hailing from a traditional Folk Theatre family (Oggu Katha) from Koppur village from Warangal (Urban) District, Telangana holds vivid passion for Theatre and Film Arts. Enriched with 25 years of experience in art and culture and in Theatre Arts Practice/ Theory Dr. G Kumara Swamy was the first Indian Theatre actor/Director who performed with Peking University, Institute of World Theatre in Beijing, China. He worked as a lecturer at IIIT Hyderabad and provided his services as a guest lecturer at NACTA (National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts) and Honghu College in Beijing. Having completed his Bachelors in Computer Application with the passion for Theater Arts, he did his P.G Diploma in Theater Arts from Telugu University, Hyderabad. Later, he pursued his MPA (Masters in Performing Arts) with UoH Merit scholarships and then Ph.D in Theater Arts with UGC/JRF/SRF from Department of Theatre arts, SN School, University of Hyderabad under the guidance of Dr.Joly Puthussery (Currently Associate Professor at CFCS-UoH). He directed and acted in more than 110 Theatre productions and 8 Short films, 4 feature films. He was also an active member of Indian Society for Theatre Research (ISTR), Asian Theatre Working Group (ATWG) and International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR-UK). His participation in UNESCO-International and European Symposium on Art and Cultural Education at Paris (France) in 2007 and Inter-Asia Summer Camp at SEOUL (South Korea) in June 2008 and his contribution through theatre art form where he initiated PLANETG Theatre Group first time for Historical Telangana Statehood Movement were remarkable ones. Being a first Telangana Artist selected for Chinese Government Scholarship, was trained in Beijing Opera Physical at National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts(NACTA) in Beijing. As a practitioner and researcher he exemplarily presented papers in 9 International and 6 National conferences and invited guest professors to the University of Hyderabad. In addition to all these achievements, he performed in 6 International shows at Beijing, China-2009, Singapore and Malaysia. With his vivid imagination, zeal and dedication to Theater Arts and Film studies, he has been doing intercultural, experimental productions by inviting Theatre Experts from different countries , one of his experiment “The Monkey Kings of Oggukatha” got appreciations widely, especially Indian embassy,Beijing,Chinese Embassy, New Delhi Congratulated him for taking responsibility on Indian and Chinese theatre Cultures to strengthen the friendship of both nations by understanding each other and respecting one another. Currently he is planning for Intercultural theatre/Film Projects with China, Sweden and Other Asian Countries. Having been honoured by several awards like 2nd Best short Film award in the World Telugu Conference State level competitions 2017 by Government of Telangana, Young Artist from Govt. of India, Merit Awards from University of Hyderabad, Telangana Government Best Theatre Artist in 2016, and other state awards with some Publications in account. Recently he led artist’s team from Telangana state to Haryana and Kerala states under the “Ek Bharath Shrest Bharath” Cultural Exchange Programme by Government of India. Presently, he is working with Department of Culture,TSS-Government of Telangana.
