The 68th Republic Day was celebrated with all grace and joy at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus. The UoH fraternity gathered at the GB maidan for the flag hoisting, parade and cultural activities. Prof. Appa Rao Podile, the Vice-Chancellor, UoH hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day speech. He observed the day as an opportunity to take stock of our progress and to reflect upon our future goals that we should accomplish at the University.

On this occasion Vice-Chancellor announced that the DST Auditorium in the campus will be renamed as ‘Savitribai and Jyotirao Phule DST Auditorium’ to honour the contributions made by legendary personalities. The University honoured Mr. Y Praveen Kumar, a student who won the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS Award for the year 2015-16 and received it from the hands of the Hon’ble President of India. This is first time that a student of UoH has been awarded as best NSS volunteer. The University presented a cheque of Rs. 10,000/- as a token of appreciation of his selfless efforts through the University’s NSS Program Officer.

The entire gathering gave a thunderous applause to Mr. Praveen Kumar for his commitment to social service. Vice-Chancellor said, “I hope to see that he becomes a role model for the current and next generation of students to participate in outreach activities of the University.” This was followed by prize distribution for the meritorious work rendered by the security personnel at the University.

Cultural programme by the students from the Kendriya Vidyalaya UoH captivated the audience. The performance gave smiles and cheer to all the present and was able to imbibe elements of patriotism and harmony amongst the audience. The celebrations spread joy and cheer among all present on the occasion.
