Prof. Podile Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has announced Students’ Aid Fund in the name of UoH first Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gurubaksh Singh (GBSSAF) on the 70th Independence Day. The VC asserted that many students with genuine requirements were approaching the DSW and the Vice-Chancellor for financial support. As of now, there is no provision in the budget for such support.
The Vice-Chancellor termed the initiative as Social Responsibility of Individuals (SRI). He also appealed to the teachers, non-teaching staff, students, alumni, philanthropists and concerned individuals to come forward and financially aid the students. VC assured that the University would explore the possibilities of approaching the Department of Income Tax for tax exemption on these funds donated to the GBSSAF. The trust will be managed and monitored by duly constituted committee in a highly transparent manner, he added.
The Vice-Chancellor, as a token of contribution, announced Rs. 5000/- from his salary every month would be donated to GBSSAF under SRI. This contribution will continue until he completes the tenure as the Vice-Chancellor.
