The Honourable Governor of the Odisha, Professor. Ganeshi Lal released a book “Politics of Education in India: A Perspective from Below” authored by Prof. Ramdas Rupavath, faculty at the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad at the Raj Bhavan on 22nd September 2023.

The book examines the educational status of the tribal population and studies developmental issues such as unemployment, illiteracy, caste discrimination, and inequality faced by the community. It is a study on the implementation and execution of welfare schemes, initiatives, and reforms in place to tackle issues faced by tribal students and identifies loopholes in the various centrally sponsored schemes, and emphasizes the importance of the Right to Education Act and presents the policy implications for the educational upliftment of India’s tribal people.

The book, which is a critical study of the Indian education system, will be indispensable to students and researchers of education, education policy, minority studies, indigenous study, sociology of education, and South Asian studies.

Prof. Ramdas Rupavath thanked his friend, Dr. Promod Ray from Odisha who facilitated the release of the book by the honourable Governor of Odisha. The Governor was briefed about the book and its contemporary relevance in meeting the bourgeoning academic need of students, academia, Policy makers, Members of Civil Society and the general readers, to comprehend and understand the conflicting currents of politics in India at its present context and the politics of Education in India in contemporary times. The honourable Governor appreciated the academic endeavour.
