The Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology (CASEST), School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH) organised a HSF-India HEP Software workshop from 13th to 17th January 2025 to train Master and Ph.D students with the software requirements in High energy physics. The workshop was inaugurated by honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.J. Rao, IoE Director Prof. M. Ghanashyam Krishna, Dean School of Physics, Prof. P.K. Suresh, Head CASEST, Prof. Samrat Sabat, Prof. David Lange Princeton University and Dr. Bhawna Gomber, CASEST. The event was jointly coordinated by Dr. Bhawna Gomber and Prof. David Lange.

The HSF-India project aims to promote the development of international research software collaborations. It was a one-week program with hands-on training on scientific python, Parallel programming & GPUs, Basics of Machine Learning and Real-time triggering software for doing research software in physics. Internationally renowned experts from Princeton University, University of Massachusetts, Rutherford Appleton laboratory, University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Washington imparted the training. The workshop was attended by 60 PG and PhD students from across the country. An interaction session with IMSc/ MSc students of the university on pursuing a Ph.D. in the USA was also organized. This session was attended by more than 150 students. Prof. Peter Elmer of Princeton University, USA delivered a lecture titled “Building International Research Software Collaborations for Next-Generation High Energy Physics Experiments” as part of the workshop. The workshop is a contribution of CASEST towards the skill development and internationalization objectives of the Institution of eminence at the University.

This event was supported by the University of Hyderabad, Institution of Eminence and the U.S. National Science Foundation grant OISE-2201990
