The Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore has elected Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) for the prestigious fellowship of the Academy. Indian Academy of Sciences is one of the renowned science academies of the country.
Prof. Appa Rao is a senior faculty member in the Department of Plant Sciences who is known for his contributions in the area of plant-microbe interactions in general and plant disease control using modern molecular approaches in particular. This recognition from the Indian Academy of Sciences is conferred on him for his research contributions in the area of plant sciences. Prof. Appa Rao was earlier elected as fellow of other prestigious academies including the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi besides several other awards and honours.
Prof. Appa Rao’s lab is supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and European Union under Framework Programme 7 and leads a group of 15 research students.
On 31st December 2014, Dr. Jogi Madhuprakash who obtained Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Appa Rao was awarded with the Young Scientist Award in Life Sciences by the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences. Dr. Madhuprakash received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, memento, certificate and citation from the AP Akademi of Sciences.
