The Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare, University of Hyderabad (UoH) invited Lt. General (Retd.) M. A. Zaki as the Chief Guest and Shri S A Khader, IG (Retd.), Border Security Force (BSF) to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas at the University of Hyderabad.

Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at UoH on July 26, 2017 by saluting the supreme sacrifice made by the brave sons of our motherland. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to mark the end of Kargil War in 1999.

Lt. General Zaki, while addressing the gathering, shared his contribution and experience during Kargil war which lasted about two months mainly in the Kargil Sector of Jammu & Kashmir between India and Pakistan. He also mentioned about the climatic difficulties faced by the Army during the war. Army officers would lead their company from the front always feel that they will win the battle, he added. He also stressed that the armed forces play a major role during the war which helped to regain the occupied areas. He called upon the students of the University to recognize the services of soldiers and make efforts to help them in education or any kind of help once they are out of their active service after 20 years.

Shri S A Khader shared his personal experiences of the Kargil War as he was posted at Jammu during that time. BSF would guard the border and played a major role during the war.

Commander (Retd) Challa Venkateswar earlier worked in the Indian Navy and presently working as Deputy Registrar at the University of Hyderabad recalled how the army fought during the Kargil War by which we could win the battle.

Prof. Debashis Acharya, Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW) welcomed the gathering and introduced the speakers while Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Pro Vice-Chancellor – 2 presided over the programme.

Prof. Darla Venkateshwarlu, Deputy DSW along with DSW and other colleagues felicitated the guests on the dais.

Prof. G. Padmja, Deputy DSW proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was attended by large number of faculty, students and staff of the University.
