Mr. Mastanbabu Somepalli, Research Scholar in the Department of Animal Biology, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) was selected for prestigious International conference, 28th Annual Molecular Parasitology Meeting, which is being held at Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA during September 10-14, 2017.

Mr. Mastanbabu doing his research on Malaria disease under the guidance of Dr. Kota Arun Kumar, faculty in the Department of Animal Biology, School of Life Sciences, UoH. He will present a paper based on his research work at the conference. His work on “Elucidating the functions of Plasmepsin VIII in Plasmodium berghei” has been awarded prestigious travel grant to attend the conference. He is one of the very few recipients of this year travel awards.

The Molecular Parasitology Meeting is an annual event held at MBL. This conference has been conceived and initiated in the year of 1990 to promote rapid advancement of new technologies, exchange of novel ideas and dissemination of new ways of thinking, particularly for important public health challenges such as parasitology. Ever since its inception, it has been serving as an excellent platform for participants especially, PhD students and Postdoctoral scientists by facilitating useful community feedback, appreciation, and debate. The MPM is organized and supported by practicing scientists who choose to engage the parasitology community. Every year, parasitologists from all over the world, gather to share, discuss and debate new findings and the way forward. Indeed, it’s a tremendous opportunity for him to take part in this event to share the platform with key leaders in the field of molecular parasitology and present his findings.

Mastanbabu Somepalli is a DBT research scholar at Department of Animal Biology, School of Life Sciences, UoH. His topic of research is “Deciphering the function of aspartic proteases (PM VII & VIII) in Plasmodium berghei, a rodent malaria parasite model. He has also presented his work at prestigious Keystone symposia on “Drug Discovery for Parasitic Diseases” held at Tahoe city, California, USA in January 2016. He has also been awarded travel grants by DST-SERB and UPE-2. He has successfully finished his research work and soon will be awarded PhD.
