Prof. B. R. Shamanna, from the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Hyderabad, has been nominated to the Governing Board of the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW). As a member of the NIHFW board for a 3-year term, Prof. Shamanna joined esteemed members, including the Honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, and representatives from the Health Ministry, DGHS, ICMR, and apex health institutes at the meeting held on18th February 2025 in New Delhi.

The NIHFW, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, serves as a technical institute and think tank for promoting health and family welfare programs in India. Its departments address various health and family welfare issues, including communication, community health administration, epidemiology, and medical care.

This high-level strategic meeting focused on evaluating past achievements, shaping plans and scaling up research and training programs to further strengthen India’s public health landscape. The chairperson lauded NIHFW continues to be a pillar of excellence in healthcare capacity building. He opined that with a unified focus on healthcare innovation, education, and accessibility, this meeting highlighted the nations continuous commitment to advancing public health and family welfare, ensuring a brighter future for all in the country.

 

The meeting also provided opportunities for networking and collaboration to expand the public health landscape in India. Notably, the University of Hyderabad’s School of Medical Sciences was recognized for its excellent program, setting a benchmark for central universities in the country
