Mousami Kirtania, pursuing PhD in Public Health at the School of Medical Sciences at University of Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Ajitha Katta, presented a paper titled “Developing a Community-based Palliative Care Model using a Primary Health Care Approach in Telangana, South India” at the 15th Malaysian Hospice Council Congress, held in Sibu, Sarawak in Malaysia from July 25-27, 2024. The conference theme was “Strengthening Connections and Collaborations in Palliative Care”.

The conference aimed to provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for practitioners of Hospice and Palliative Care to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns, practical challenges encountered, and solutions adopted in the fields of Hospice and Palliative Care. The conference had excellent speakers like Dr. Frank Ferris (Associate Director, Palliative Medicine, Research & Education, OhioHealth Columbus, Ohio), Dr. M.R. Rajagopal (Chairman Emeritus of Pallium India, Kerala), and Dr. Richard Lim (Head of Palliative Care Unit, Hospital Selayang, Malaysia).


Mousami’s research work focused on the strategies to develop a new model of home-based palliative care in Telangana, starting from two major districts – Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy.
