The National Space Day Celebrations at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on 23.08.2024 was a unique tribute to the success of Chandrayaan Mission-3, marked by the safe and soft landing of Vikram Lander at the “Shiv Shakti” point on the lunar surface.

As part of the National Space Day celebration, a web link has been created on the University webpage (https://centres.uohyd.ac.in/ceoas/events/) to share the documentary videos provided by the Department of Space.

The National Space Day celebrations kicked off with an essay writing competition at the College of Integrated Studies, where students were given the opportunity to express their thoughts on the focal theme “Glory of India’s Space Saga.” Students from different schools were assembled at the Auditorium of Zakir Hussain Lecture Hall complex to participate in the live-streaming of the National Space Day event titled “Touching lives while touching the Moon-India’s Space Saga” graced by the Hon’ble President of India.

 

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B. J. Rao, inaugurated a poster session in the premises of the Zakir Hussian Lecture Hall Complex. Several posters highlighting the unparalleled glory of Indian space research were displayed during the poster session.

Prof. V. Chakravarthi, Head-CEOAS & Nodal Officer-UoH National Space Day celebration, formally welcomed the participants and briefed them on the National Space Day celebration planned at UoH. Prof. B. J. Rao, in his address, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Department of Space, underscoring the great success of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission. He also pointed out that the expenditure involved in the launch of space missions by ISRO is significantly lower than that of other global space agencies, a testament to the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Indian space missions.

Dr. P. V. Nagamani, Scientist-SG & Group Head – OSG/ECSA, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad, has delivered an intriguing talk on “Indian satellite missions for Earth system applications.” In her talk, she demonstrated with case studies how space technology caters vital inputs to SDGs, agriculture, forestry, mineral resources including groundwater, oceans, coastal ecosystems, mangroves, coastal hazards, flood channel mapping, coastal dynamics, weather forecast, climate science, etc. The presentation ended by highlighting the upcoming and planned satellite missions of ISRO

The Vice-Chancellor honored the speaker with a memento and distributed the prizes to the essay writing competition winners.

Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar-UoH, also participated in the event. The program ended with a vote of thanks.
