Ibrahim Badusha C, a PhD candidate from the Department of Political Science, School of Social Science, University of Hyderabad, working under the supervision of Prof. K K Kailash, presented a paper titled “Political Parties, Clientelism and Politics of Non-State Welfare in Contemporary Kerala” at the 14th Düsseldorf Graduate Conference on Party Research (GraPa). The conference was organized by the Düsseldorf Party Research Institute (PRuF) and held at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany, from February 9th to 10th, 2023.
Ibrahim’s paper explores the evolving forms of political clientelism that have emerged through non-state service provisions in Kerala, India, with a particular focus on the service activism of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). This work is part of his doctoral research project, which seeks to examine the political ramifications of non-state service provisions by various political parties in the state of Kerala. The conference served as a forum for rigorous discussion of current research in the field of Party Politics, attracting participants from across Europe, the US, and India. Ibrahim’s attendance at the conference was made possible through funding from the Institution of Eminence (IoE) travel grant scheme.
