The Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath celebrated an important milestone as they conferred the prestigious M Aryamurthy Award for the year 2024 upon eminent artist, B.V Suresh, Professor in the Department of Fine Arts, SN School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad. The Chitrakala Samman Award Function was held on 6th January 2024 in Bangalore, and organized in association with the Higher Education Department, Government of Karnataka. Dr G Parameshwar, Honorable Home Minister bestowed the award on Professor Suresh, who was among the four artists honored this year.

The M Aryamurthy Award for 2024 states that it is “being given as a well-deserved acknowledgment of Prof. Suresh’s contributions, recognizing his ability to seamlessly blend experimental elements with socio-political commentary. Throughout his career, B.V Suresh has demonstrated a remarkable proficiency in various artistic mediums, including video art, sculptural installations, paintings, digital prints, and mixed media assemblages. His works are known for their experimental elements and socio-political contextualization, exploring the intersection of history, narrative politics, and mass media images”.  The award adds that “the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath takes pride in honoring and celebrating not just his artistry, but also his dedication to pushing the boundaries of expression in the ever-evolving world of visual arts”.

It is an event that has brought honor and accolades to the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication at the University of Hyderabad and to the Department of Fine Arts in the university.
