Dr. P. Prakash Babu, Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, School of Life Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been invited by Academia Sinica, based in Taiwan. Prof. Prakash Babu will be visiting the Neuroscience Program of Academia Sinica (NPAS) in Taipei from July 22 to 26, 2013. He has been invited to share his research with them and promote neuroscience research on their campus.
Prof. Prakash Babu has been identified as a prospective collaborator in the area of neuroscience and neuro-degenerative diseases. Earlier in April 2013 a team of seven scientists from Academia Sinica visited to identify faculty with common scientific interest in order to establish joint research collaborations. The prospective collaborators will have joint collaborative projects, researchers / students may visit collaborator’s laboratory from either side. Prof. Babu’s primary research focus is neuro-degeneration (apoptosis and necrosis) and has been working in this area using neurological disease models in rats and mice. Further, his laboratory is also focusing on the neuro-regeneration using stem cells.
Academia Sinica is a government-supported research institute in Taipei. The research areas encompass social science, natural science and life science among about thirty institutes/centers. The NPAS, now including more than 30 labs, aims to serve as the platform for interaction of neuro-scientists and integration of researches from different institutes in Academia Sinica.
