The Odisha Economic Association (OEA) on 11th Feb 2024 conferred the Young Economist Award for the year 2023 on Professor Alok Kumar Mishra, School of Economics, University of Hyderabad, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to teaching Research and programme on Land, Housing, Transport and Urban Economics and Public Policy. OEA is giving away this award for the first time. The award carries a medal and a citation.
The award ceremony was conducted at the 56th Annual Conference of Odisha Economic Association, organised by the Department of Economics, Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla, from February 10-11, 2024. During these two days of the conference, the noted economists, policymakers, and bureaucrats from different parts of India and abroad discussed two themes: pathways for sustainable growth in an uncertain world and emerging issues in the social sector of Odisha.

Govinda Rao, Former Director NIPFP, New Delhi and member, 14th Finance Commission, Professor Badri Narayan Rath, Professor of Economics and the Department of Liberal Arts, IIT, Hyderabad, Prof. Himanshu Sekhar Rout, Professor of Economics, Utkal University, Prof. Deepak Kumar Mishra, JNU, Prof. Keshab Das, former Professor at GIDR and Editor-In-Chief, Odisha Economic Journal, Professor Uday Shankar Mishra, IIPS, Mumbai, Prof. Tapas.K. Prof. Alok Kumar Mishra delivered the valedictory speech at the conference on ‘Cities, Rent and Benefit Taxation: Lessons for Urban Public Finance Reforms in India” on 11th Feb 2024. Professor Mishra has highlighted the Cities as the engine of economic growth and discussed the important role of integrating city planning, designing, infrastructure, finance and governance to harness economic growth. He emphasised incorporating the golden principle of urban public finance in the policy framework, such as User pay, Beneficiary pay, Congesters pay, Polluters pay, Exacerbators pay, and Growth pay. Finally, Professor Mishra thanked the Odisha Economic Association for selecting him and conferred the prestigious Young Economist Award 2023.
