The inaugural session of the ten Days “Research Methodology Course” for Ph.D. Students organized by the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), was held on March 22, 2017 at the School of Social Sciences which is scheduled from 22nd to 31st March, 2017. The programme is sponsored by Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The programme is multidisciplinary in nature that aims at (a) refreshing the theoretical knowledge and help the research students identify specific issues and areas for further research, (b) developing skills and abilities to use appropriate data and methodologies (qualitative and quantitative), (c) improving research capacities to write and publish research papers and project proposals.
In response to the advertisement, 225 PhD students from all over the country had applied for the course, out of which 40 students were selected. The selected participants come from various disciplines of social sciences, such as sociology, political science, economics, history, geography, anthropology, commerce, and mass communication. The selected participants belong to different state and central universities, IITs, NITs and other research institutes.
The inaugural session of the programme was chaired by Prof. Aparna Rayaprol, Head, Department of Sociology. Prof. G. Nagaraju, Department of Sociology welcomed the participants and introduced the theme of the Course. Prof. Sujata Patel, President, Indian Sociological Society (ISS) delivered the keynote address titled “Recent Trends in Social Science Research”. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Satyapriya Rout, Department of Sociology. The inaugural session was attended by the department faculty and former teachers like Prof. E. Haribabu, Prof. Vinod Jairath and Prof. K. Laxmi Narayana.
