Mr. Sankaran Ramesh, student of the 2013-18 batch of Integrated Masters in Physics at the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad has been offered admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme by research in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, which is regarded as one of the top universities in the world. He has got the NTU-research fellowship to support his studies. His Ph.D. themed on “Sustainable Earth” with a thrust to develop alternative energy sources will be carried out at the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) which is a premier institute that promotes relevant energy solutions for the future.

ERI@N also has collaborations with various industrial partners that help foster a research environment dedicated to the goal of sustainability. Sankaran is interesting in developing non-silicon technologies for cost-effective solar energy conversion.

Mr. Sankaran has completed his Integrated M.Sc. course at School of Physics, University of Hyderabad in 2018 with the final year MSc thesis titled “Polaronic Effects on the Electronic Properties of a Polar Semiconductor Quantum Wire with Parabolic Confinement” under the guidance of Prof Ashok Chatterjee. He had been awarded the prestigious Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Research Fellowship to undertake an internship at the Materials Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore under the guidance of Prof K T Jacob. He also got the opportunity to work at NTU during the summer of 2017 through the NTU-India Connect Research Fellowship during which he worked with Prof Sum Tze Chien at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, NTU.
