The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SM&S), University of Hyderabad (UoH) organized a six-day Golden Jubilee distinguished alumni lecture series – 2025 along with alumni meet and 19th Bhagavatula Ramamurthy and Smt. Bhagavatula Saradama Memorial lecture – 2025 in the central seminar hall (east campus) funded by the Institution of Eminence, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
The lecture series is coordinated by Dr. M. S. Datt (Associate Professor, SM&S) and chaired by Prof. Saroj Panigrahi (Dean, SM&S). The program was compered by Ms. Ekta Soni (Research Scholar).
The talk on the first day of the distinguished alumni lecture series was delivered by Prof. P. Anuradha Kameswari from the Department of Mathematics, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, on 10th February 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in Online mode entitled “A Review on some Number Theoretic Tools in Construction of Some Cryptosystems.”
The first talk of the second day on 14th February 2025 of the distinguished alumni lecture series was delivered by Prof. G. Ramesh from the Department of Mathematics, IIT Hyderabad, on “Completely positive maps on matrix algebra” and in the second talk, Prof. A Benerji Babu from the Department of Mathematics, NIT Warangal, presented the modal on “Mathematical Modeling of Convective Instabilities in Binary Fluids: Effects of Thermal and Compositional Buoyancy.”
On 21st February 2025, the third day of the alumni lecture series, Prof. K.S.S. Moosath from IIST Thiruvananthapuram, introduced “Information Geometry” and explored the world of information by means of modern geometry.
Prof. A J Parameswaran delivered the fourth-day talk on “Genuinely Ramified Maps and Some Consequences” on 24th February 2025.
He is a visiting professor at the Kerala School of Mathematics. He was a professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Moreover, he discussed equivalent definitions of the genuinely ramified maps and induced an isomorphism on the stratified fundamental group.
On the fifth day, 25th February 2025, the School of Mathematics and Statistics organized an alumni meeting from 11:00 a.m. The event began with the lighting of the lamp and introductory words of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B J Rao, Prof. Saroj Panigrahi, and the coordinator, Dr. M. S. Datt, along with guests.
Prof. Atul Negi from the School of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad, delivered a talk on “Progress in Optical Character Recognition of Telugu Script,” and Prof. C. S. Sastri from IIT Hyderabad delivered a talk on “Sparsity-driven Optimization: Theory and Application.” More than 50 university alumni attended the event.
The last day (28th Feb 2025) of the distinguished alumni lecture series ended with the talk of Dr. S Sivaji Ganesh, Associate Professor at IIT Bombay. He introduced the “Homogenization Theory”.
Also, on 28th Feb 2025, the School of Mathematics and Statistics organized the 19th Bhagavatula Ramamurthy and Smt. Bhagavatula Saradama Memorial Lecture-2025. The invited talk was delivered by Prof. Neena Gupta (ISI Kolkata), entitled “On the Abhyankar-Sathaye Epimorphism Conjecture.”
Prof. B L S Prakasa Rao (Emeritus Professor of ISI Kolkata and INSA Senior Scientist at the C.R. Rao AIMSCS) attended the talk and expressed their thoughts. The talk was interactive and students participated enthusiastically.
