Sh. Shishu Ranjan, University of Hyderabad alumnus (MA- Economics, Batch: 2008-10) has been promoted as Director in Model Risk Management (MRM) at Barclays Global Services India, a subsidiary unit of multinational financial firm Barclays Bank, headquartered in London. Barclays is a global banking brand with 334 years of banking history and holds the honour of introducing the first cash dispenser machine (ATM) to the world in 1967. As a Director, Shishu Ranjan will be the head of Barclays Retail Model Risk Management India team which manages the credit risk econometric and statistical models developed for UK Banking Business activities, Impairment Reserve Quantification and Capital Adequacy under Banking Regulatory Guidelines.

Shishu Ranajan joined HSBC in 2010 through campus placement drive at the UoH and worked there for more than six years. Progressing his career, he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) US Advisory in 2017 and later joined as Assistant Vice President in Barclays by the end of that year. With more than 14 years of experience as a Risk Management Professional, he is now a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Regulatory Credit Risk domain that ensures bank solvency with adequate capitalisation under various macroeconomic conditions.

Besides his professional engagement, Shishu Ranjan frequently writes on Indian Economy in print and electronic media. He has keen interest in Indian Politics, which is not surprising given his active involvement as a student leader during his UoH stay. He is a vivid biker who has toured all corners of India on his Royal Enfield and equally loves mountains and beaches.

Shishu Ranjan says, “After completing undergraduate from Delhi University, initially I was reluctant to move to Hyderabad, but undoubtedly the two years in UoH campus were the best years of my life. I not only had the fortune to get trained under excellent teachers supported by very good library and other infrastructure support, cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural interactions in various forms also facilitated in better understanding of our great nation. I also have lifelike memories of natural landscape, lakes, flora and fauna of the campus. It was UoH that gave me my first experience of leadership and a bunch of great friends who are as supportive as they were in my university days.”
