Srirupa Poddar, a PhD Scholar in the Centre for English Language Studies (CELS), School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad (UoH) under the supervision of Prof. Pingali Sailaja will present her paper titled “The Use of Mother Tongue in English Language Classrooms: Perspectives of Language Teachers from Tripura, India” at the Sociolinguistic Symposium 25 (SS25) to be held during June 24 – 27, 2024 at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She has received a grant for online registration for the conference.
The Sociolinguistics Symposium is the world’s main gathering of sociolinguists internationally. Started in 1976, the Sociolinguistics Symposium has grown into the largest sociolinguistics conference in the world. This biennial event provides a unique opportunity and forum to develop and exchange ideas and research findings about language and society in its manifold connections and manifestations.
Themed Ordinariness and Innovation: Linguistic Diversity and Disparity, this conference will place emphasis on the importance of understanding language from contrasting yet complementary aspects, exploring diversity and disparity as challenge and as opportunity.
