The Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science & Technology (CASEST) under School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH) in collaboration with National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) Hyderabad Chapter and Academy for Science, Technology and Communication (ASTC) is organising two day Symposium on “Electronics for Self-Reliance” on 16th-17th February, 2023 at Dr. Zakir Hussain Lecture Hall Complex, University of Hyderabad.
Dr. B. K. Das Outstanding Scientist & Director-General – Electronics & Communication Systems (ECS) DRDO Inaugurated the Symposium & delivered ASTC- A. S. Rao Memorial Lecture on ”Leveraging Defence R&D for Atmanirbhar Bharat”. Dr BK Das gave a lucid account on the evolution of technology development in the strategic Defence sector and how far India has come from importing all technologies to developing many of them. Missiles and LCA projects being two important examples. He encouraged young students to be more creative and innovative and contribute to nation development
Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao ,Pillay Chair Professor and Former Director IIT, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour and delivered the Keynote Address on “ India Semiconductor Mission: How can academia leverage this opportunity ? “ Prof Ramgopal emphasised the importance of establishing an ecosystem of innovative technologies in academic institutions and setting up start ups within the academic sector. He gave examples from his own experience in development of sensor systems for different applications leading to startup’s which are now transferring technologies.
Dr. (Smt.) N. Kalaiselvi Director-General, CSIR & Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research delivered the ASTC- Prof. Suri Bhagavantam Memorial Lecture. Dr Kalaiselvi spoke about our country’s needs in electric mobility plans. She described the main achievements of different CSIR labs across India. She gave an inspirational talk motivating young scientists to take up local challenges at the same time achieve global leadership.
Professor B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad presided over the Inaugural Function.
This thematic Symposium will deliberate on various topics like ‘Recent Trends in Organic Electronics’; ‘Hi-tech electronics manufacturing:India’s readiness”; Breaking the Barriers of Computing’; ‘Microelectronic device Fabrication: Challenges and opportunities’;‘Application Oriented Electronics Enterprises’; ‘Photonics ecosystem in India’; ‘Electronics in the Connected Home – Emerging Opportunities’;‘Self-Reliance in critical electronic materials and emerging opportunities’; ‘VLSI Design opportunities for Students’; ’GaN Applications and technology’;‘Semiconductor Packaging : Key to Technology Advancement’; ‘Demystification of the silicon world’; and ‘Opportunities in Electronics for startups,MSMEs and for strategic Applications’.
Eminent Scientists from Scientific institutions like JNCASR;DRDO,CMET,SCL, Distinguished Fellows from National Science Academies; Senior faculties from Universities including CASEST,-UoH ;leading technologists from electronic industry sector like Manjeera Digital Systems,TCS, Silicon Labs., Global Foundaries, Signion India Systems, Light Motif Intel Corporation, Transphorm, will participate in this two day symposium . As Part of the Symposium a Panel Discussion on “Electronics for Self-Reliance” will be held on the afternoon of 17th February.
Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy Scientific Advisor, Raksha Mantri will deliver the Valedictory Address on ‘Self -Reliance in Electronics at 4pm on 17th February,2023.
