University of Hyderabad has been made mentor university for establishment of this university

Shri. G Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region inaugurated the Transit Campus of the newly established Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) on 8th March 2024 at Jakaram Village near Mulugu District Headquarters.

Hon’ble Minister of Panchayat Raj & Rural Development (including Rural Water Supply), Women & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana Dr. D. Anasuya Seethakka, garu also graced the occasion.

After inaugurating the Transit Campus, Shri. G Kishan Reddy said, “Under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, yet another promise made to the people of Telangana was fulfilled by the establishment of SSCTU at Mulugu, Telangana. This is a collective commitment to improve access and quality of higher education in the state of Telangana”.

“This university will cater to the regional aspirations for years to come, enhance quality and promote research among tribal communities, including in subjects such as tribal art, culture, customs and traditional knowledge systems. The university will be a harbinger of progress for the tribal communities across the country”, he added. Furthermore, the University of Hyderabad, as a Mentor University, will start the work of construction of buildings in the identified place in Mulugu once the process of alienation of land is complete. However, interim time, the Central Government took initiative to start academic activities from academic year 2024-25 itself. An Admission Notification issued by the SSCTU has been released on this occasion.

Mrs. Kavitha Maloth, MP and Dr. D Anasuya Seethakka, also spoke on the occasion and said that the establishment of this university will create direct employment in the form of faculty and non-faculty positions.

It will also result in developing surrounding areas through various services and commercial activities which in turn will generate indirect employment opportunities. This university will enhance transformational capabilities and lay a roadmap for innovative teaching and research which in turn will lead to prosperity of the area and the state of Telangana.

The SSCTU is being established at a cost of Rs 889.07 crore. The university will offer graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level courses, in due course of time.

University of Hyderabad, an Institution of Eminence, has been made the Mentor University for establishment of this university. The teaching programmes at the university will commence from the academic year 2024-25. Initially two four-year courses i.e. B.A. English (Honours) and B.A Social Sciences (Honours) will be offered at SSCTU. The admissions to the above programmes of study will be done based on score in Common University Entrance Test (CUET) – UG- 2024.
