Dr. J. Bheemaiah, Assistant Professor in the Centre for Comparative Literature at the School of Humanities in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been awarded the University Grants Commission (UGC) Research Award 2012-14.

The award is given to only 100 people every two years. The objectives of the scheme are to provide opportunities to regularly appoint permanent teachers of universities/institutions to pursue research in their area(s) of specialization for a period of two years without undertaking any research guidance. A provision for extension of tenure of Research Award has been made for one year only on the recommendation of the subject experts in exceptional cases.

In addition to the entire salary, research grant of Rs:2.00 lakhs is also given to meet expenditure on books and journals and equipment for the entire period.

Dr. Bheemaiah has done his Ph.D. from Osmania University and his research are in the areas of Dalit and Tribal Studies; Indian Literature; Literature of the Margins and Culture Studies.
